Today we gave our iguana his first real bath. He has a huge bowl of water in his enclosure that he could fit his whole body in if he wanted to but he usually just uses it to poop in, lol. Today my dad had to clean out his cage so we put him in a bathtub with some warm water. He went NUTS. I got whipped so many times (and he hasn't whipped anyone in like 6 months). He started getting used to it after awhile and seemed to like when I poured the water on his back. It was an adventure to say the least.

Tomorrow I'm going to Amanda's baby shower/welcoming party for Jordan. I have no idea what to get her! I already got her a bassinette, baby book, and a couple of outfits. But that was before she knew whether or not she was gonna have a baby shower so now I feel like I need to come with something. I know the baby has MORE than enough clothes and has all the essentials. I asked my nursing friend (who had a baby a few months ago) what her favorite gift from her baby shower was. She said the most useful thing was a baby sling (one of those slings to carry the baby in). It had a lavendar pouch in it that put the baby right to sleep and she said she LOVED it. I think I might get her one of those. Think that's a good idea? I'll go shopping tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

*sigh* I have so much going on right now, I can't even keep it all straight.

Man, I just made the best omelette ever.

They're called Zip-loc Omelettes and they rock (I found the recipe online). You just take a Zip-Loc freezer bag (has to be the freezer kind), dump in some eggs, cheese, whatever you like in your omelette and shake it all up. Put it in a big pot full of boiling (has to be boiling rapidly) water for about 10-15 minutes and voila! It turns out better than any normal omelettes I can make (plus you don't have to clean anything). It comes out of the bag perfectly and looks really cool. It's good for when you've got lots of people over because they can write their name on a bag and put in whatever they want and you can cook all the bags together in the pot. Good stuff :)

Just thought I'd share because it turned out way better than I expected, lol.

So I went to Melissa and Sarah's party yesterday :) I had fun seeing people and just hanging out. I got some sunlight, lol. I wish more people I know were there (it was kinda awkward because I didn't really know any people there besides Melissa, Sarah, and Chantal). Oh well, it was cool :) I ate sooooo much food. It was insane.

But yeah, here's some pics :)

I think that's Laura at the tiki bar.

The awesome tiki bar and the punch (which was quite yummy).

Melissa and Sarah behind the tiki bar (damn sunlight screwed up the pic).

Sarah's dog Cookie (I kinda stole her most of the night).

Some of the food (plus the poor goldfish in cups)

Casey playing guitar, plus Sarah and Mike

Cookie cheated on me with Chantal :P

My very pretty strawberry daquiri.

Most of us out on the deck (minus me because I'm taking the picture).

Folks making fondue in the kitchen.
So I'm getting a haircut on Monday and I have NO idea what I want. The main point is to get rid of all the split ends and damaged bits but I don't mind losing some length and getting an actual nice haircut, lol. It's been like four years since I even had a trim.

What do you guys think would look good on me? I was just planning on letting the hairdresser do what she thinks would look nice (with limits of course, lol) but my mom said that's a bad idea. I just want nice hair, I really don't care though, haha.

So yeah, if you guys have any suggestions, I'd love it!

I've never watched a single season up to this point (I usually just watch the auditions) but my parents got into it this season and now I'm pretty much addicted. I found that out last night when we lost power for over TEN HOURS and I was just pissed off that I was gonna miss American Idol, lol. I love me some Taylor Hicks, haha. Who do you guys want to win?
As per family tradition, I spent Easter weekend in Saint John :) It was fun. We stayed at the Hilton, which was really nice. Our rooms had a view of the harbour so I got to watch all the cute seals swimming around, lol. Good times. I had been thinking about getting a new piercing since school is done for the summer and I could have time to heal it so I went to Outworld and ended up getting my left tragus pierced :) I really like it. The guy who did it was great (really helpful!). It didn't hurt as much as I expected, it was a lot of pressure to get the needle through the cartilage though O_O But yeah, so that was cool. It doesn't really hurt at all now unless I accidentally hit it or something. Which I've done several times, lol. It just sucks that I can't sleep on that side. Oh well, I love it anyway :) Here's hoping it heals up well.

Other than that, I don't think I have any news. I've got one more exam to do (on Friday). I gotta go in to H&R Block tomorrow with my mom to sign some stuff or something. God, I don't understand taxes. They better not expect me to actually know anything, haha. Hmm, what else...oh yeah, I got a bunch of yummy chocolate for Easter :) That'll do me for like three years (anyone who has been in my room knows that I hoard chocolate, lol).

But yeah, here's some pictures because I haven't posted any pictures in forever.

Oooh.

This was after working at the hospital so I was kinda tired and gross.

Our big ugly patch, haha.

Heh, he's peeking out of my robe.
Haha, today was weird.

We noticed this weird ass bird in the yard. It definitely stuck out so I took some pictures of it and went online and posted them on a bird message board (so that someone could tell me what the hell it is). Turns out it's a freakin SHOW PIGEON. Yeah, that's right. People actually breed special pigeons to put in pigeon shows. Yes. It has a band on its leg so they told us to try to catch it so we could find the owners. So yeah, that was my afternoon. Trying to catch a fancy ass pigeon. Just like Ace Ventura, lol. I also had to call around to different breeders of show pigeons in the area (who knew they even existed?). It keeps flying away and then coming back so tomorrow if it's around, I'll try again. All the other pigeons are like "bitch please" and they keep standing in little clusters and puffing themselves up. I don't think they like the pretty pigeon, haha. Except the fatty male pigeon, who keeps doing a little sex dance or something.

Anyway, here is Mrs. Fancy Pants (as she's known now)

Haha, notice the distance between her and the normal pigeons.
Well, I just got back from my first shift at the hospital. I literally feel dead on my feet, lol.

I was at the hospital by 7am. We started out by just shadowing a nurse (seeing how the morning routine goes). I was paired up with a nurse who had six patients on the go. We got everyone up for the morning. I sat in while one of the patients did "dressing practice" (got herself dressed in front of the occupational therapist with some help). That made me kinda sad because she was confused and had a really hard time. When we first walked in, she was looking really sad and the nurse asked if she wanted anything and she said "a miracle." *sigh* Anyway...after that, we got everyone to the dining room for breakfast. That was kinda fun cuz we just walked around in the dining room helping anyone who needed help (which was a lot of people). It's just confusing cuz everyone's asking you for stuff and you either have no idea where it is, or you don't know if they're allowed to have it. Or you just plain don't know what they're asking for O_O It was cool though. After that, everyone went off to their appointments or the exercise class. I sat in on the exercise class and got a workout, lol. After waiting forever, it was time to get them ready for lunch. It was the same deal, then we were allowed to go for lunch (which was yummy, heh). By the time we got back, they were already in their beds resting or with their visitors. So that basically left...nothing to do, lol. We played cards with some of the guys on the unit and had a conference and that was it. I got my patient assignemnt...He's an older man who had a stroke and is paralyzed on one side. He's also a huge pervert, lol. It's kinda funny though. But yeah, I'm happy with that patient assignment...The unit is pretty cool. It's sad though...there was a lady with dementia wandering around the unit all afternoon asking us where the "cellar door" is. Hmm.

I'm sosososososo tired now though. And I have an exam tonight :( I gotta go study now.

Happy Valentine's Day :) For whatever it's worth, lol.

My dad got me a card...I thought it was pretty thoughtful for him, lol.

Anyway, I'm mostly writing because I don't feel like doing anymore homework right now (although I REALLY need to). I have an 8 hour shift at the hospital tomorrow and then a midterm at night. And an essay due the next day. I think I'm too stressed to be nervous about my first day in the hospital. I'm sure it'll kick in tomorrow though O_O Expect an update.

*sigh* I better go back to writing that stupid essay.

    <lj:music>James Blunt - You're Beautiful</lj:music>

I'm in a nostalgic mood. I've been watching a lot of really old movies and it makes me kinda sad. Things were so much classier-looking back then, lol. Everyone was so photogenic (or the cameras had some neat tricks), they all had this same look about them. I really wish people still looked like that. And the guys were so damn attractive!

So I decided to make a picture post in memory of pretty people past :P I'm mostly bored but I really like these pics. Have a look (there's a side-boob in one of them so I dunno...if you have little kids peering over your shoulder, maybe don't look).

Joan Blondell (probably the cutest woman to ever live!)

Clara Bow

Norma Shearer

Marlene Dietrich

Myrna Loy

Katherine Hepburn

Brigitte Bardot

Greta Garbo

Anne Baxter

And now the men...ooo :)

Marlon Brando (ohmygod.)

James Dean

Well that helped me procrastinate a sufficient amount of homework, lol.

Yayyy, long weekend (for me anyway) :) I gotta get up and go to the doctor's office tomorrow though because my doctor didn't fill out my immunization for school properly. Grrr, then I called the office today and it was busy for like an hour straight and then the "We're sorry, the office is closed" message came on. Like hell it's closed, I've had appointments much later than that (unless they decided to close early). So I guess I'm going there in person tomorrow.

My first shift in the hospital starts on Wednesday! I went last week for my orientation and tour and it looks half decent. I'm excited but really damn nervous. I gotta pick up nursing shoes this weekend. I also have to find a tight t-shirt that I can wear under my scrubs because they warned us about dirty old men. I get my patient assignment on Wednesday too :) I hope I get someone with a sense of humor...I think that would make things so much less stressful.

I have soooooo much homework to do this weekend! I just finished a 20 page paper and now I have a shitload of other stuff. Gah, it never stops...>.< I have an entire huge ass poster to do this weekend on top of my essays (like the one me and Jess made for GSA). It's on alcohol...yay. O_o

Anyway, I suppose I should get started.

And I have a huuuuge Physiology test on Tuesday that I completely forgot about until today.

*sigh* I'm tired of doing stuff.
Today was a day of firsts :)

I took blood pressures for the first time. I think I'm doing pretty well, for my first time. My only thing is reading it accurately, because the lines on the manometer are so little and they each represent 2 mm Hg. I took all my family's pressures though, and my lab partner Alison. I'm getting better at it :) I still need to find 5 more people to practice on (we need 10 different people).

I also voted for the first time! :D Go me, lol. I'm glad I didn't get lazy and just skip it. It was kind of an anti-climax though, haha. No bells and whistles...not that I expected any, it was just not that exciting, lol. Today at lunch, Andy Scott was walking around in the cafeteria at school stopping at every table to remind us to vote. So yeah. Not that I voted for him but whatever, it was a nice guesture.

I am SO tired. My degus woke me up initially but then I just couldn't get back to sleep (until about 5 minutes before my alarm, which was useless, lol).

I really think I'm allergic to colored tattoo ink. Or at least the kind the Lil Dave uses. My tat that I got in the summer is STILL red and bumpy and verrrrry itchy. It's really bad today :( I don't know what to do for it...lol, it's not like I can take the ink back. Gahh, it really sucks though.

I'm watching a sad documentary called The Girl Who Turned to Stone. It's about a little girl with a disorder that makes her bones get very hard and have bony growths (like a whole other skeleton) until they're just immobilized forever. *sigh* Makes me very glad that I was born without anything seriously wrong with me.

I just watched probably one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. It's called Children Underground; it's about homeless children leaving in a subway station in Romania. The leader of the country outlawed birth control and abortion, so now there are thousands of homeless kids on the streets. The movie centers on this little "family" of children and their lives. It's shocking to say the least. To REALLY say the least O_O It was such a sad thing to see. I don't really know what else to say about it because it's just an amazing documentary.
I got a long weekend unexpectedly :) One of my professors got larygitis so she cancelled Friday's class (which is the only class I have on Friday's). Yay ^_^ I've just been watching movies and knitting and stuff.

Last week one of my degus got hurt :( I came home from school and my mom said "before you go in your room, I'm just warning you that you might get upset"...there was blood all over the cage (well, not ALL over...but it was still scary). Both degus had blood all over them so I didn't even know who was hurt. I finally saw that the blood was coming from one of the degus paws. They both had it all over them because they had been snuggling together. Mom and I cleaned the cage to make it a little more sanitary and by that time he had stopped bleeding. He was acting normal, except he held his little paw close to his chest. Now he's almost back to normal. He uses it normally but it still looks a bit swollen :( Poor little guy. Haha, the other degu is being an attention whore now. He saw all the attention Jay (the hurt degu) got so he started to hold his paw close to his chest too. Little faker, lol. He mostly stopped doing that now though. Crazy little things...I cleaned their cage out again today so they're pretty happy :) I still just have a feeling of dread though because we're kinda no longer sure of their sexes. And I'm really worried that "Jay" (Jane?) is female and pregnant. Silent Bob always tries to mate with him/her and he/she is getting fatter. I really don't know what's gonna happen if Jay has babies and where they will go :( I really really don't want to seperate Jay and Silent Bob 'cause they've always been together and they're just so cute together...all snuggly and stuff :( *sigh* Here's hoping Silent Bob is just gay, and Jay's just a fatty.

Heh, that class was fun.

I just got out of one of my clinicals. We learned glucose testing today :) With those little spring-loaded things that prick you in the finger. It was pretty cool. We each had a partner and we took turns being the nurse and the patient. The first two times my partner didn't press hard enough so not enough blood came out but the third time worked. So now I have fingers full of bandaids, lol. I got enough blood from her the first time :) My blood glucose level was normal and so was hers. I really love learning this hands on stuff now. On monday we learn bedmaking, haha. Not quite as cool as finger pricking but whatever. I'm kinda worried because I don't even make my OWN bed O_o

But yeah, I had a good day ^_^

I just watched the most amazing documentary. I rented it through the DVD delivery thing and I got it in the mail awhile ago but it's just kinda been sitting around. It's called Southern Comfort and I finally watched it today.

It was about a couple who were falling in love. They were both transgendered (one was male-to-female and the other was female-to-male). The man was dying of uterine/ovarian cancer. The last part of him that was female was killing him and no hospitals would help him because he was transgendered. It showed his last bit of life, with his girlfriend Lola and his trans friends. He always looked forward to Southern Comfort, a conference for transgendered people. He got his wish of going to it one last time and then it showed how his dying was affecting his friends and girlfriend. It was just so sad and sweet at the same time. I cried my eyes out.

I'd really recommend it. I don't want to send it back now, lol.

New Year's Eve last night was pretty cool :) Went to Annie's and hung out. Got drunk for the first time ever! Lol, it was fun and I'm sure I was annoying as hell. I got a bunch of pictures on my phone but the phone is new so I can't post them until I figure out how, lol. But yeah, it was a fun time :) We ordered a pizza at like 11:15pm. And we called a certain person to profess our sexual attraction...which probably creeped him out immensely. Whatever, it was fun. I got a ride home with Marie's parents so that was good (no long drawn-out cab ride with a weird taxi driver at 2am).

I got home and crashed and didn't wake up till noon.
